Design Engineer/Technologist II (Packers group)

We are currently recruiting for a permanent full-time Design Technologist or Engineer II in our Rapid Tool Development Centre.  The successful candidate will have experience in new product development and design, as well as sustaining of existing product lines.  This mid-level role will provide development, product improvements and maintenance of the Packer product line at Packers Plus in which you will be part of the entire process from concept to practical application. 

Packers achieves this with our in-house machining and testing departments as well as a world class Materials Characterization Lab all under one roof. The primary role focus is: while supporting our values of Operational Excellence, Innovation and Customer Intimacy, the successful candidate will conceptualize, design, analyze, verify, validate (test) and accurately document the development of completion tools that provide solutions to complex downhole applications. This role also provides support in the Engineering related maintenance of Packer Plus’ products, and reports to the Design Engineering Manager for the Packer product line.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Complete medium design projects with minimal support and supervision

Complete all tasks (models, drawings, calculations, testing, technical documentation) required to drive projects from concept to production

Provide recommendations on design and processes, based on sound engineering principles, to continually improve efficiencies in new product design

Research industry advances in technology, materials, and standards to ensure innovation in new product design

Provide engineering guidance and recommendations to various departments

Revise and maintain drawings and models as necessary

Review technical documents for accuracy and completeness

Ensure compliance with Packers Plus Safety, Health & Environment program

 

Position Requirements

Experience and Skills:

Experience with downhole completions tools

Knowledgeable in completions and liner operations

4-8 years of experience in a similar role

High mechanical and mathematical aptitude

Technical communication and knowledge of drafting standards

Knowledge of engineering principles, concepts, standards and industry practices

Knowledge of various manufacturing processes

Solid working knowledge of 3D CAD (Solidworks) software

 

Education and Training:

Degree or Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Petroleum or other related field) or equivalent experience

Local Professional membership (e.g. APEGA/ASET in Alberta) is an asset

 

Physical and Safety Requirements:

Position is Safety Sensitive and subject to pre-employment drug & alcohol testing

Subject to post-incident and reasonable-cause drug & alcohol testing

Exte4nded periods of sitting at a desk with use of computer, mouse and keyboard

Some time required in a shop setting
