Engineer - Materials Characterization Lab

We are currently recruiting for the permanent full time role of Engineer – Materials Characterization Lab.  If you love to tackle issues, solve problems and have a unique work day, every day, then please read on!

The primary role focus is:

Operate an in-house materials characterization laboratory analyzing various materials and components used in the oil and gas industry.  Primary focus on polymers with additional focus on metals, composites, and other advanced materials.


Key Tasks and Responsibilities

Characterize materials and components through in-house or third-party testing

Create and maintain material specifications

Select, evaluate, and qualify materials

Support Engineering and Manufacturing groups providing guidance as needed

Develop new test fixtures, methods, and procedures

Ensure accuracy of test results through a laboratory quality management system

Write test reports and maintain and catalog test data

Support the Quality management system including ensuring compliance to applicable API and ISO specifications


Experience and Skills

Experience in analytical and testing techniques of materials

Understanding of physics would be an asset to the candidate


Education and Training

Degree or Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Materials or other related field) or equivalent experience

APEGA/ASET membership is considered an asset



Technical Competencies

Knowledge of industry standards including ASTM, ISO, and API.

Mechanical aptitude

Leveraging Technology

Technical Knowledge

Proficient with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook)


Physical and Safety Requirements

Subject to post-incident and reasonable-cause drug & alcohol testing

Position is Safety Sensitive and subject to a pre-employment medical assessment and drug & alcohol testing
