Finite Element Analysis Engineer

Primary Role Focus

The FEA Engineer’s responsibilities consists of structural designing, development, and testing of finite element models designed for engineering purposes. This individual also has to determine the internal stress and extract interface load of the models, especially near the structural joints.  An FEA Engineer should be able to clearly explain analysis results and create comprehensive report documents.   As a valued member of the engineering team, this person will monitor other engineering activities and provide technical solutions based on analysis results for developing an optimal design.  


Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Head engineering programs involving FEA simulations for new product designs and modifications to meet customer requirements
  • Support strategic planning and deployment of additional CAE modeling processes to accelerate product development
  • Understand and provide guidance on computing hardware infrastructure development
  • Manage outsourced FEA support as required when local resources cannot meet demand
  • Interpret analysis results and convert them to design suggestions
  • Correlate analysis results with lab test results and refine models to provide accurate results
  • Investigate opportunities to limit required testing and reduce validation costs with FEA analysis
  • Mentor and coach design engineers in the use of FEA and interpretation of results
  • Understanding of material properties / mechanics
  • Develop automation scripts using Python Scripts


Position Requirements


Experience and Skills

  • Experience in using a variety of engineering tools like FEA, MATLAB, MathCAD, Excel, etc.
  • Knowledge of the product development process
  • Working knowledge of SOLIDWORKS or similar 3D modeling software
  • Excellent knowledge of advanced FEA skills like transient, fatigue, and non-linear analysis
  • Experience in numerical algorithm development using Fortran/C/C++/C#
  • Experience with non-linear FEA analysis and elastomer modeling
  • Exceptional communication skills
  • Knowledge in technical writing for writing test plans and reports
  • Organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to work solitary or in a team


Education and Training

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Masters in Engineering preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years performing FEA Analysis
  • Minimum 1 year of performing FEA Analysis using Abacus in both linear and non-linear simulations
  • Able to perform CFD Analysis is a plus


Physical, Business and Safety Requirements

  • Compliance with Packers Plus Health and Safety Program
  • Lifting/carrying up to 40lbs
  • Work in a lab environment as required
  • Position is Safety Sensitive and subject to a pre-employment medical assessment and drug & alcohol testing
  • Subject to post-incident and reasonable-cause drug & alcohol testing
