We are currently recruiting for a permanent full-time Design Technologist II or Design Engineer II in our Rapid Tool Development Centre.

While supporting our values of Operational Excellence, Innovation, and Customer Intimacy, your primary focus will be to conceptualize, design, analyze, verify, validate (test) and accurately document the development of completion tools that provide solutions to complex down-hole applications. This role also provides support in the Engineering related maintenance of Packers Plus’ products, and reports to the Completions Accessories Coordinator. 

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Complete medium design projects with a minimal support and supervision
  • Complete all tasks (models, drawings, calculations, testing, technical documentation) required to drive projects from concept to production
  • Provide recommendations on design and processes, based on sound engineering principles, to continually improve efficiencies in new product design
  • Research industry advances in technology, materials, and standards to ensure innovation in new product design
  • Provide engineering guidance and recommendations to various departments
  • Revise and maintain drawings and models as necessary
  • Review technical documents for accuracy and completeness

Requirements:

Experience and Skills

  • Experience with down-hole tools
  • Knowledgeable in completions and liner operations
  • 4-8 years of experience in a similar role
  • High mechanical and mathematical aptitude
  • Technical communication and knowledge of drafting standards
  • Knowledge of engineering principles, concepts, standards, and industry practices
  • Knowledge of various manufacturing processes
  • Solid working knowledge of 3D CAD (SolidWorks) software

Education and Training

  • Degree or Diploma in Engineering (Mechanical, Chemical, Petroleum or other related field) or equivalent experience
  • Local Professional membership (e.g. APEGA/ASET in Alberta) is an asset

Physical and Safety Requirements

  • Position is Safety Sensitive and subject to a pre-employment drug & alcohol testing
  • Subject to post-incident and reasonable-cause drug & alcohol testing
  • Extended periods of sitting at a desk with use of computer, mouse, & keyboard
  • Some time required in a shop setting
